Is your company website built on the world’s largest content management system?
If so, it may be time for a re-design!
The Joomla Content Management System has been through several revisions over the past year and the latest release of Joomla 2.5.8 is the most secure and stable release to date. If your website is currently on Joomla 1.5 or earlier, it may be time to consider a complete re-design of your website.
Why a re-design, can’t I just upgrade my CMS?
You have the ability to just upgrade your CMS, but many of the external extensions and components that were designed for older versions will no longer work within your website once the upgrade is complete. If you are paying someone to find and install all of the exact same extensions, you might as well do a complete re-design while you’re at it.
This is a fantastic opportunity to clean up and renovate your website at the same time! Many of our customers are adding new features such as “responsive” templates which will optimize your websites viewing experience across all devices (from desktop monitors, to tablets and mobile phones!)
Additional reasons for Joomla website upgrade & re-design
There are several, but here are our top three.
The biggest reason being better security. The end-of-life cycle for Joomla 1.5 is September of 2012. After September there will no longer be security patches available for your Joomla CMS and most likely all of the extensions and components installed within your Joomla CMS. This means there is a much higher rate of your website being hacked and there won’t be any patches available for a fix.
Second reason is automatic upgrades. Joomla 2.5 has this feature built into the control panel and you can complete upgrades to the latest version with one click. This feature not only works for your content management system, but also works for most extensions and components installed!
Last but not least, support for multiple databases. Traditionally Joomla has run on the MySQL database. There are current drivers in Joomla 2.5 for MySQL and MS SQL databases and it looks like there should be drivers for Oracle, PDO and SQLite released soon!
